Dear Dr. Keena.
Walt and I recently retired to WA from Idaho to be closer to our kids and grandkids. It was so hard to leave our vet of thirty years. We had hoped we would have time to find a vet in our new community who would be as caring and compassionate to both pet and owner.
We didn't expect to find ourselves in such critical need so quickly. Our sweet cat Prima, took a turn for the worse shortly after our arrival. I searched the internet for a vet and your clinic website was very simple and welcoming. I was able to get an appointment quickly and prayed for the support we needed.
When we met you we felt an instant connection. You were very patient with us and most of all listened to our concerns and wishes for Prima. It wasn't an easy decision to let her go, after loving her for twelve years, but I knew in my heart it was her time. Of course after we got home I immediately worried if she could have been saved and cried myself to sleep over her loss.
Within a couple of days we received your handwritten card and you immediately gave me peace of mind and heart when you confirmed it was her time and that she passed with dignity and peacefully. I so needed to hear those words and to remember the wonderful gift she was to us for those twelve years. The paw print was so sweet and extremely thoughtful and we cherish it.
We wanted you to know how much you helped us that day and how very grateful we are for your care and love of animals. We look forward to you meeting the rest of our furry kids and feel great comfort in knowing we have found a vet we can trust.
We pray you enjoy a blessed holiday season with your loved ones!
Dr. Keena: I just wanted to thank you for suggesting acupuncture for Spencer.
The change in him since starting treatment is amazing. Before we came to you, we typically walked a slow 1/4 mile daily and he struggled at night to get up the stairs, frequently falling or refusing to try. Now he tries to trick me into walking more than 1 1/2 miles (at a brisk pace!) and turns down the booties that we used to put on to improve his traction on the stairs. He sounds so strong and sure coming up that we can't believe it. The treatment has allowed him to put muscle back on and has truly improved his quality of life. I get tears in my eyes (corny, but true!) when he comes racing across the yard to see me. It's hard to imagine that he's the same dog.
He also seems to know that the needles are helping. He really enjoys coming for treatment (the treats don't hurt). I get acupuncture myself, so I was more than willing to try it for his spondylosis, but the results are still amazing. No possibility of the improvement being in his (or my) mind, the changes are measureable! I really appreciate your skill, training, talent and compassion.
